What was the brief?

SOAS is renowned for its students. Bold, passionate, diverse. And it’s this side of the student experience that SOAS wanted to focus its next recruitment campaign on. The student body that prospective students could become a part of.

How did we approach the brief?

Right from the outset, we were keen that this film is for the students, by the students. So rather than capturing a series of talking heads with academics and filming with students in a class, we instead put a call out to the students of SOAS to send us their own footage, captured throughout their time at the university, which they felt gave an insight into the life of a SOAS student.
We received a wealth of footage, showing students on rallies, protests, poetry readings, nights out and within societies, all of which brought a new dimension to the classic student recruitment film – an authenticity that can be missed when creating using a traditional approach.


The film was released online to a great reception. The student unions that we spoke to when looking to collect the footage were extremely receptive and felt that student-led content was a great reflection of the real SOAS experience.
