Travel ads and online videos have traditionally (and understandably) been dominated by glossy shots of sun-soaked locations. However, Thomson’s ‘Simon the Ogre’ spot seems to exemplify a new-found storytelling instinct within the sector.

Certainly round the Spectrecom Films creative office, we all marvelled at the sheer filmic beauty of the Larry Lamb-starring ad produced by Saga (for whom we, of course, have also produced many videos for over the years).

Like a rather sumptuous live-action version of ‘Up’, no?

Thomson has brought its holidays to life in a different way, but still with a clear narrative and still with a definite air of cine-magic. The result is ‘Simon the Ogre’.
