December is here, and brands are all unfurling their new Xmas video ads. Most, unsurprisingly go for the soft, fuzzy positive side of the festive season, but Greenpeace have gone for something darker – presenting a despairing Santa, pleading for your help to save his polar abode.

Entitled Save Santa’s Home, the video sees Downton Abbey star Jim Carter donning big white beard to play the global icon of Xmas cheer. But this Santa is desperately short of seasonal spirit, with global warming in danger of turning his North Pole residence into slush.

After telling Obama and Putin that they’re top of his naughty list (no mention of Berlusconi…), Santa pleads for your support to help stop the meltdown – with viewers able to sign up to the campaign via Greenpeace’s mini-site.

It’s a simple idea and strong message, which has been well executed without any unnecessary flourishes or distractions. Take a look for yourself below.
