As YouTube continues to assert its power over more traditional video production and TV viewing habits, Channel 4 have opted to embrace the future.Opportunities for creative YouTubers have now been made available via the Channel 4 YouTube and 4OD channels and the broadcaster will be commissioning the best content for television broadcast.
New show ‘Mashed’ will showcase original web shorts, sketches and music and is slated for a run of 6 months with content added weekly.
This new wave of filmmakers have also been given the opportunity to make trailers for actual Channel 4 content such as brand new docu/reality show ‘The Chicken Shop’
This is a huge leap forward for YouTube on TV with the format seemingly being promoted from the gutter of tedious clip shows. A format Channel 4 has been guilty of promoting in the past.
