What was the brief?

The University of Hertfordshire wanted to produce two films which introduced the Digital Technology and Biomedical Engineering courses to prospective students, enquirers/applicants, and parents/influencers alike.

The ultimate aim was to increase applications and excite students about what the courses, and the university more broadly, can offer.

How did we approach the brief?

The talking head has gained a bit of a bad reputation, with corporate associations meaning it’s become something of a dirty word among production companies and clients alike.

But, done well, a talking head can really bring a contributor testimonial to the fore and place it as the focus.

A tight shooting schedule meant that we only had access to our Hertfordshire contributors for a limited amount of time, meaning we needed to maximise our interviews with them and ensure we could capture bold exciting cutaways to illustrate their stories.

So, what we proposed to Hertfordshire was a twist on the classic talking head.
Visualising student testimonials with stock footage and animations that would be interspersed throughout the interview, offering bursts of bright, bold visuals.

As this was the start of a new relationship with Hertfordshire, we wanted to show that we could bring creativity to even more constrictive briefs.

Delivery

The final film was a fantastic example of strong student story, brought together with impactful visuals to create a piece that stood out and introduced the department in an eye-catching way.

The client was delighted with the finished result and we are excited to be working with Hertfordshire on two new projects later this year. Watch this space!
