What was the brief?
Going to university is a life-changing experience – in terms of education on the one hand, but also in terms of lifestyle. But how do universities go about giving students a genuine feel for where they’re going to be living?
That’s a question that Keele University answered by enlisting Spectrecom to produce a video series showcasing each of its five halls of residence (Lindsay, Horwood, Hawthorns, Barnes and Holly Cross & the Oaks).
By making these videos, Keele aimed to highlight the facilities of the halls, as well as the welcoming atmosphere they offer and convivial fun of communal living.
How did we approach the brief?
Filming over the course of a week, our film crew shot with a different key contributor at each halls, allowing them to provide viewers with their personal take on what life in their halls is like and why they love it (and Keele) so much.
We were filming in wintry January, allowing the crew to capture some fun snowy scenes (in the Horwood video in particular).
But because Spectrecom has filmed extensively at Keele previously, the videos were also able to incorporate footage from those prior summertime shoots – showing off the wider university campus, and in the glorious British sunshine no less.
Underlining the strong sound-bites from the contributors, we made use of graphical text integrated into the settings, providing informational nuggets to viewers.
The series have amassed 30,627 views on YouTube.
