Title: Ready for a Career Change?
Delivery: Cinema Ad
Talent: Creative, production, filmmakers, post-production
What was the brief?
Clarkson Evans is a top 100 Apprenticeship Employer in the field of electrician apprenticeships.
The company wanted to produce a 30s cinema spot aimed at recruiting 22 – 23 year old men currently working in a job that is perhaps not satisfying them or offering the progression opportunities that they would like.
The ad needed to show them that a change of career doesn’t always have to mean years of re-training, and in fact a lot of the skills they already posses can be transferable in an electrician role.
The audience needed to come away with new insight into life as an electrician apprentice and wanting to find out more.
How did we approach the brief?
Our approach was to show one man’s day in two different professions – as a chef and as an electrician apprentice. The idea was to perfectly mirror his movements in the two different scenarios, showing that the skills he possessed had similarities but that their application gained two very different results.
This proved quite challenging for our crew, who spent 2 days shooting up in Cheltenham with the Clarkson Evans team.
The challenge came from needing to shoot everything twice across two separate shoots – once to set the timings and movements and a second time to capture the ‘reflection’ on the other side of the screen whilst maintaining the composition.
In post-production as well, the editor had to carefully match the shots in order to ensure the mirrored concept really came across.
It was a sterling effort on everyone’s part and the result is a striking cinema ad that stayed true to the creative and screened in Oxford, Bracknell, Crawley and Southampton.
The client was extremely happy with the result and we’re looking forward to seeing the results of the campaign in due course.
