At Spectrecom we are totally committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Watch our films on this page to see how being responsible to the environment and our local community is integral to all our activities. Are there any ideas you could use for your own organisation?

ENVIRONMENT
The climate change debate seems to be over and there is now general acceptance that it is taking place. Whilst there are still those who believe that this phenomenon is a natural cycle of events, mounting evidence suggests that human activity is, at the very least, a major contributory factor.
We appreciate that some doubt remains, but even if we are undecided, the stakes with which we are faced surely dictate that we should err on the side of caution. Whatever our impact on the climate, it's still common sense to minimise pollution and to save the Earth’s natural resources for future generations. We must do what we can to reduce our emissions, minimise waste, and preserve our environment.
As a leading communications company, Spectrecom is able to take a central role in helping to educate and encourage our stakeholders towards an environmentally sustainable future. Our aim is to equip corporations, NGO’s and individuals with the knowledge and desire to make voluntary changes that will bring tangible benefits not only to them, but also to the world at large.
Taking a Lead
We run a busy production office and film/TV studio, and we are constantly out and about shooting on location. The video productionindustry is typically very wasteful and profligate with natural resources, but at Spectrecom we are doing everything we can to minimise any damage we might do.
In practice this means that we:
- Re-use existing materials
- Reduce energy usage and unnecessary waste
- Recycle what we can
- Source environment friendly products and consumables
-
Travel efficiently
Our environmental policies and procedures are core to the business model, and we have found that, overall, our policy has helped to save money and increase our profitability. This includes re-using materials for and from studio set builds, a preference for low energy studio lighting, buying 100% of our energy from renewable sources, and recycling our office and studio waste.
Environmental Awards
Spectrecom was awarded a "Highly Commended Plaque" at the IVCA Clarion Awards ceremony in recognition for its short Corporate Social Responsibility films. The Clarion Awards celebrate the finest examples of responsible communication on Sustainable Development, Cultural/Social Aspiration, Social Inclusion and CSR across all media platforms. You can read the press release here.

Spectrecom was named a "National Green Champion" at the Green Apple Award ceremony at the House of Commons on the 9th of November 2007.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Companies and other organisations do not thrive in isolation. Sooner or later at some level, whether we are large or small, wherever we fit into the food chain, we all depend upon society for our survival. We have a moral duty to engage with and support our communities, and to help hold the fabric of society together.
At Spectrecom, we take this responsibility seriously. Our video production company is based in a comparatively deprived and run down part of London and there is much that we can do to help this area become a better place for those that live and work here.
Internally, we recognise and respect our legal obligations to our employees – and try to go further. We recruit ethically, on merit, and without positive or negative discrimination. We openly communicate every aspect of the company’s activities, we are focused towards the same goals, and we are extremely proud of our reputation as a friendly and happy team.
We have a policy of social inclusion and responsibility. It goes beyond mere recruitment into the workplace, and encompasses our training programmes and our involvement in the local community (the Boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham).
Making a Real Difference
From the outset we have been reaching out to a wide and diversified network of individuals and organisations in the area. In practice, this means that we:
- Recruit without positive or negative discrimination
- Provide video production training and work experience opportunities to local young people
- Work in partnership with local training providers
- Participate in local events
- Trade with local businesses
- Sponsor local charities
Given the nature of one of our business activities, namely our studio operation, we have been contributing indirectly to our neighbourhood too. Our visitors, including some well-known television and music personalities, spend money on hotels, taxis and restaurants, and Deptford High Street has provided a rich source of finds for props buyers and set designers.
In the long term, as our business continues to grow, we fully intend to remain in this area of London, continuing to develop our relationships within the community.
