Sayonara 2014 then. ‘twas a year in which German efficiency overpowered South American flair, North Korea held Hollywood to ransom, and Paddington Bear made a comeback to rival that of Elvis in ’68. Oh, and here at Spectrecom, we made a lot of videos. How many? A LOT.

What follows is a countdown of the 10 videos we produced in 2014 which scored the biggest YouTube views…

10. Zaha Hadid Architects (24,683 views)
A towering profile film for the world famous architecture firm. Also, the project’s director, Chris Karageorgiou, managed to wangle a trip to Hong Kong and Seoul as part of the shoot, the crafty scamp.

9. easyCar Club – The Social Way to Hire (33,197 views)
Having already made mention of Paddington… this collaboration with LAW Creative actually took a bit of creative spark from the marmalade sandwich-addict’s old TV show, most obviously in its black and white illustrated backgrounds.

8. Adam Gemili: What Makes an Elite Athlete? (33,869 views)
A pretty groovy year for Team GB sprinter Adam Gemili as he claimed his first senior medal and his first senior title, and all ahead of turning 21 in October to boot. Made the rest of us feel like the slackers we are.

7. Dogs Trust – Hot Cars Kill Dogs (59,512 views)
Definitely one of our favourite of our own productions in 2014, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house after it was first screened for the team here… just as there wasn’t a dry armpit amongst the crew during the shoot itself.

6. Jon Favreau – Stella Artois Connoisseurs (73,999 views)
In town to launch his new movie, ‘Chef’, actor-filmmaker Jon Favreau requested, nay demanded that he be allowed to sit for the Spectrecom cameras and reveal his movie-making secrets. Oh go on then, we said.

5. Who is BMW’s Ultimate Driver? (74,595 views)
Mmm, good question. Part of a major project produced in partnership with top agency Dare, this film saw Jake Humphrey searching for the one lucky punter who would win their dream-job as BMW’s newest test driver.

4. Meet the World at SOAS (80,131 views)
Take a helping of infectious rhythms and a healthy dose of enthusiastic students, garnish with liberal amounts of colour and fun, and hey presto! You’ve got all the ingredients for the most successful university film this side of Rodney Dangerfield’s ‘Back to School’.

3. BMW Trick Shot Challenge (106,415 views)
Slightly offbeat idea to publicise the pinnacle of golfing competition, the BMW PGA Championship, by showing four blokes being useless at golf. But that’s just what this video did, with a quartet of England rugby stars playing the stooges.

2. Stella Artois – Tom Ailkens Serves Steamed Mussels (215,666 views)
That is Michelin-starred chef Tom serves up the steamed mussels, as opposed to him actually serving them, as if they were his master or something. That’d just be weird.

1. Stella Artois – The Perfect Cut with Ian Poulter (1,123,114 views)
Madcap golfing magnificence from Ryder Cup hero Poulter, as he takes the top off a pint of Stella Artois using his pitching wedge. And some truly sumptuous filming from the Spectrecom team – most obviously that super-slo-mo money shot.

Spectrecom Films creates film and video content for clients both here and abroad – for big commercial brands including Guinness, American Express and Skittles, leading charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care, as well as many, many other clients.
