Most of the university videos we make involve packing a mountain of kit into the trusty Spectrecom Films van and heading to an on-campus shoot. They do not ordinarily involve illustrators, time-lapse filming and the takeover of our Studio 1. But that’s just what was required for our latest collaboration with the University of Roehampton.
The University of Roehampton wanted an animated student orientation film with a difference. They wanted it to offer a helpful, informative guide for new students, certainly. But they also wanted it to tell the story of a typical Roehampton student and the ups and downs they might experience over the course of an amazing first year at the university. Here’s what we came up with…
The film has only just been completed, and has already drawn a very positive response from the client. Here’s what Lucy Parsons, Communications Adviser at Roehampton, had to say about it…
“We were tasked with a difficult job – to turn information our new students need when they first arrive on campus into something fun, exciting, creative and bite-size. From my first phone call to Olly, enquiring, to my final email with Chloe, receiving the final cut, the team demonstrated they ‘got’ the idea and, importantly, delivered the vision.”
“Everyone I worked with was as much invested in making our film excellent as we were, and worked extraordinarily hard to ensure our upmost happiness with the finished film. The whole team were exceptional from beginning the creative process, writing the script to filming and editing.”
“We have worked with Spectrecom before and achieved excellent results. That’s why, in our mind, there was no other filming company to use for our student orientation video.”
To give credit to the team involved, the film was directed by Peter Ford, shot by James Adair and lit by Laurentiu Maria. Chloe Morris produced it, James was involved again as editor, and the talented hand creating those excellent illustrations belongs to artist Lawrence Elwick.
The film was shot in a single day, right here at Waterloo Film Studios. Here’re a few behind-the-scenes pictures from the day…
