Just in time for Downton Abbey’s return to the small screen on the weekend John Lewis have deployed their latest mega-advert in the shape of a time-travelling love story. The two lovers are separated by an 87 year wormhole in time and space all in the name of celebrating John Lewis’s fixture on the high street since 1925.
Garnering an impressive 51,000 views in two days the total has now doubled with shares in the thousands. It’s not quite the Christmas advert when it comes to dividing opinion but the rather dower soundscape of Paloma Faith covering INXS ensures a similar feeling throughout, except without the saccharine finale.
It’s a great ad though and an interesting and unique way to pay homage to a brand’s illustrious history.
